چکیده

Competition, Hidden Information and Efficiency: An Experiment We devise an experiment to explore the effect of different degrees of competition on optimal contracts in a hidden-information context. In our benchmark case, each principal is matched with one agent of unknown type. In our second treatment, a principal can select one of three agents, while in a third treatment an agent may choose between the contract menus offered by two principals. We first show theoretically how these different degrees of competition affect outcomes and efficiency. Informational asymmetries generate inefficiency. In an environment where principals compete against each other to hire agents, these inefficiencies remain. In contrast, when agents compete to be hired, efficiency improves dramatically, and it increases in the relative number of agents because competition reduces the agents’ informational monopoly power. However, this environment also generates a high inequality level and is characterized by multiple equilibria. In general, there is a fairly high degree of correspondence between the theoretical predictions and the contract menus actually chosen in each treatment. There is, however, a tendency to choose more ‘generous’ (and more efficient) contract menus over time. Competition leads to a substantially higher probability of trade, and that, overall, competition between agents generates the most efficient outcomes. Hidden Information, Bargaining Power, And Efficiency: An Experiment

We devise an experiment to explore the effect of different degrees of bargaining power on the design and the selection of contracts in a hidden-information context. In our benchmark case, each principal is matched with one agent of unknown type. In our second treatment, a principal can select one of three agents, while in a third treatment an agent may choose between the contract menus offered ...

Study the Relationship between Competition and cost Efficiency in Iran’s Banking Industry

An important factor affecting economic growth is the creation of an efficient financial system for financing high value-added activities. Accordingly, this study examined the relationship between cost efficiency and competition in Iran’s banking industry using data of 18 state-owned and private banks over the period of 2006-2015. To do so, we used trans-log cost function to measure the cost eff...

بررسی سناریوی‌های مختلف اشتراک اطلاعات در زنجیره تامین با استفاده از شبیه‌سازی

As knowledge is power, information is power in supply chains. It (information) provides the decision maker the power to get ahead of the competition, the power to run a business smoothly and efficiently, and the power to succeed in an ever more complex environment. Information plays a key role in the management of the supply chain. but how the different combination of information sharing based ...

(Non)exclusive Contracting under Adverse Selection: An Experiment∗

The performance of markets with hidden information is of central importance in microeconomic theory. We present the results of a comprehensive experiment that distinguishes between the two crucial forms of hidden information, private and common values, in different contracting environments. Contracting environments vary by the degree of power that the screening market side has over the trades o...

Do chimpanzees know what conspecifics know?

We conducted three experiments on social problem solving by chimpanzees, Pan troglodytes. In each experiment a subordinate and a dominant individual competed for food, which was placed in various ways on the subordinate's side of two opaque barriers. In some conditions dominants had not seen the food hidden, or food they had seen hidden was moved elsewhere when they were not watching (whereas i...
